Returned item bug

I have only tested this i Dynamics AX SP2, but I would guess that this is also a problem in SP1.

When registering a Sales Order of the type “Returned item”, there are some validations and other functionality that apply. To start with you get an auto generated RMA number. There is also not possible to enter a positive quantity on the order lines, because that would defeat the purpose of the Sales type “Returned item”. The customer is supposed to get money back, not pay the items price again when returning it.

But:

If you create a Sales Order of the sales type “Journal”, add sales lines with positive quantity and then change the sales type to “Returned item”, some interesting things happen(well, don’t happen).

You now have a Sales Order of the type “Returned item” with lines that has a positive quantity. If you post this as an invoice, the customer must pay you to return an item which might seem a bit odd, at least it does to me.

To add to this, you now have to enter RMA-number manually without having a clue about what the next number sequence value should be. If you don’t you can’t save the order without changing the Sales type to something else than “Returned item”.

To top this off, if you click on the tab References without having entered a valid RMA number, you won’t be able to close the form, save the form or even close Dynamics AX without using the Windows Task manager.

I have reported this to MS support and gotten some code to correct the RMA number problem, a problem that also is the cause for the deadlock problem when clicking on the references tab.

To gain access to this code you need a MS live ID that enables you to enter MS Partner Source. If this is the case, just click on the following link to gain access to the article:

With the code from MS, only one problem remains. It is still possible to end up with a Sales Order of the Sales type “Returned item”, that has a positive quantity.

I will keep you posted if something comes up on the remaining problem, or if I get the time to sort it out myself.
